So the festive mayhem is over, it’s time for fresh beginnings and opportunities to be truly authentic. Compelling research continues to prove that the better engaged a team is the happier, more productive, loyal and ultimately more profitable it will be. So let’s crank up that creative engagement and be tremendous!
We understand that keeping your people connected and engaged is becoming an increasingly demanding challenge. Your colleagues may be spread across different departments and operations, perhaps nationally or even globally. A positive culture of open communication is an absolute necessity.
Our next 3 blogs in the ‘Cultivating Culture’ series will look at this in more detail – for now, we’ll focus on the face-to-face methods. Yes – they still exist!
Consider these following suggestions:
· Show & tell… Encourage a deeper understanding and awareness amongst your diverse departments by hosting an internal ‘expo’. Share achievements and good news stories as well as best practice ideas such as new streamlined processes and cost saving suggestions.
· Let’s face facts… It’s a challenge to bring that dreary old presentation to life. Capture imagination. Consider stimulating ways to get your point across – make it an experience for all the senses with sound, video, interactive handouts, games or props. Blend the serious with a touch of light-hearted merriment. Pass the parcel with a Dancing Queen soundtrack? (one of our clients pulled this off – what a legend!).
· Interactive information… We all agree that nobody jumps at the thought of ‘death by PowerPoint.’ Consider other options such as Prezi to add more impact and inspire your audience. Slides chock full of bullet points and charts may prove to be an efficient collection of information but do they engage? Ask yourself, are you communicating in a way that appeals? Keep it short and snappy. Create something dynamic and different to the run of the mill. Presentations should be the backdrop to a great presenter and we should be cautious not to blame the software when it comes to sleeping spectators.
· Think outside the office… Face-to-face doesn’t have to mean being limited to ‘traditional’ meetings either. Think about creating opportunities in more social settings. Consider activities which will allow team members to bond while discussing challenges and exploring possibilities. How about breakfast sessions, cocktail or twilight clubs? Maybe even some team games to get the blood pumping and pulses racing. A change in time or location often allows for a more open session and starts discussions flowing between colleagues. Be inventive and always think productive – keep your ultimate goal in mind.
